Day 1: NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month)

Day 1. I must take the plunge.

Dive deep into the desolate

wasteland of my imagination

and dig up roots of buried inspiration

~ ideas, passions, life’s joys,

not yet forgotten.

I must forage for them,

scour sacred soulless soil,

find beauty in that which is bleak

pour life into that which is deceased.

thrust shovel and shivering nerves into the dirt,

stab the earth, remove worry and demolish doubt –

dig up roots of buried inspiration,

stirring, sterile, substance of past subconscious visions ~

not yet forgotten

perishing with the tide,

with mind’s land – empty and rotten

ravaged by a storm so powerful,

that where once was life,

now lies barren earth.

Pen at my fingertips, ink will run from restless, stirring thoughts,

irrigating the page,

channelling the remnants of passion left within this

sinking vessel.

watering can in hand,

we will bring fruit and flower to this weakening mind,

restore sap and seed,

allow fear and hurt to recede,

let the sun’s rays erode mountains of doubt which feed

and fester

and consume all light in its path.

We will pour life into every

crack and crevice of mind’s cave,

fill up every pore

with streams of flowing thought,

make rich your mind once poor- empty of contents, muted, stifled and shaking at its core.

Awake, giants in slumber!

your old friends – endless Energy and Excitement for this world ~

where lifeless, arid landscape of your mind exists,

we will free oceans of pure colour, let them fill the dark trenches which have emerged.

Dig up roots of buried inspiration –

begin the churning of mind’s imagination.

Thrust shovel and shivering nerves into the dirt,

and trust that your thirst for life will re-emerge.
